New ITS concept on measuring strains and stresses of bridges

Related to an U.S. Defense Dept. inquiry ITS Technology has earned an reputation for being specialists in measuring strains and stresses of transportable milityary bridges. The mission was to develop a technically sophisticated, yet extremely durable, built-in measuring unit which should not require maintenance during a ten year period.

The ITS solution was based on a self-discharging system only functioning when the bridge was subject to strain or stress. Tests eventually proved, that power consumption was, in fact, lower than the actual discharging energy, why the measuring process as such turned out to be self-supporting. The energy source used was a common lithium battery, a choice that made expertise at the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology feel dubious about the system’s capacity. Profound testing did, however, prove that the ITS solution came up to expectations why it has been positively reviewed both in Sweden and the U.S.

The system will most likely be adapted to various civil needs, one being traffic census in general and WIM (Weighing In Motion) in particular.
